British artist Doug Foster’s video artwork Fortuna’s Wheel was inspired by the enduring ‘wheel of fate’ that has been associated, through the ages, with the Roman goddess Fortuna. It symbolises the inevitable changes of fortune that occur throughout our lives with no apparent rhyme or reason. In the artwork, the wheel of fortune is represented as a twelve-sided, wreath-like array that continuously turns itself inside out as it slowly cycles through sixteen transformations. With a bit of ancient knowledge and some imagination, each formation can be read as the harbinger of a possible impending fate.
