Studying the mechanisms that measure time is to study the mechanics of time itself. The machines and methods to track the passage of time are arbitrary and relative to their observers, which can only be due to a single fixed standard to which they are all measured against. Yet, time has always been plastic, molded to the biases of the beholder, or at least that's what anyone who has watched a pot boil will tell you. What then is to be said of time? Is it objective or subjective? Is it black and white, or the gradients between?
