About this artwork
Strata III is vivid conclusion of a three-work series: Strata I, II, and III, by Dennis H Miller.
Strata III employs multiscale Turing patterns — an esoteric method of generating imagery first proposed by Alan Turing to explain how natural markings such as stripes and spots emerge on animal skins. Miller adapts this mathematical system as a creative engine, transforming it into flowing, colorful abstractions that feel at once organic and otherworldly.
At the center of the work lies a bold circular form, a fixed point around which layers of patterned color expand and contract. The interplay between the stable core and the constantly shifting surroundings creates a balance between focus and flux. The slow, deliberate transformations suggest a visual meditation: the ability to remain centered amid continuous change.
Original music adds to the atmosphere with a mellow, steady tone that mirrors the visual sense of grounding. With its combination of generative design, rich color, and calm pacing, Strata III captures both movement and stillness — a reminder that clarity can be found at the center of transformation.
